Taking Care of Us, Moms!
Take Care of You, Moms!
We’ve heard it a million times! Take care of yourself because no one else will; Words to live by. If you are the one trying to take care of everyone in the family, and you get off balance, who will take care of everything?
We know how hard it is to do everything on our to-do lists, but we also know how hard it is to do those things when we are feeling under the weather. That’s why it is important for us moms to take care of us. Putting ourselves first is not being selfish. It is actually being a smart cookie. So after you bake the cookies, hide a few for later, tie your Nike’s on and get out into nature.
I make sure as I start filling up my schedule with work, grocery shopping, and personal responsibilities, I schedule my walking, biking, or beach strolling. It is a great excuse to look at your schedule and fill it with other activities in order to sabotage your health. Be sure to think about the activities that put a smile on your face and make them a priority.
The key is reconnecting to some part of nature. Ideas that include an ocean view, grass at a park or yard, a walking trail with beautiful plants and flowers, and even the atmosphere at a lake, stream, or brook is exactly what the doctor ordered. When we reconnect to nature, we are actually connecting to God. Enjoying these places with our favorite music brings a smile to our face; yet taking these places in with quiet positive thoughts brings us closer to our divinity inside us. It gives God the opportunity to connect with us through our thoughts.
Just like the pelicans in the sky, if we don’t take care of ourselves, we won’t be healthy enough to lead the line. They work as a team as they migrate from one place to another. We need to fill our tanks with all the upbeat energy we can find through the activities that make us smile. Yes, we need to do many odds and ends for our children, but it is crucial that we put our needs at the top of the list. God does not want our tank to be empty and sad. He wants our souls to flourish so we can help our little ones thrive.
If we take the time to reunite our breath with our clear reflections, we can start to feel that oneness we’ve always had. Not only do we feel energized, but we become the light we have always been. Be the light for others to see and feel, so your light can jump start theirs.
